[00:00:00] Hello, welcome to your daily grace. By Timothy Wilder Foundations Episode 74 the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Adoption Sons, not Slaves Paul makes one of the most breathtaking declarations in the New Testament when he writes, you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons by whom we cry Abba, Father. Romans 8, 15 and 16. Adoption is not a metaphor. It is the legal, relational, covenant reality at the center of the Gospel. The Spirit does not simply change your status. He changes your experience of God. He brings you out of fear and into family. He replaces distance with intimacy, insecurity with belonging, and slavery with sonship. [00:00:46] Paul continues, the Spirit himself bears witness with our Spirit that we are children of God. This is not theological theory. It is the Spirit's active ministry in your heart. He testifies, he assures. He awakens the cry of Abba, a word of nearness, tenderness and trust. Slaves do not say Abba, only sons do. And the Spirit teaches your heart to speak the language of belonging. Paul repeats this truth in Galatians 4, 6 and 7. Because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his son into our hearts, crying, abba, father. So you are no longer a slave but a son. And if a son, then an heir through God. Notice the order. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit. The Spirit does not make you a son, Christ does. The Spirit makes you feel like a son. He brings your emotions into alignment, alignment with your identity. He dismantles the orphan mindset, fear, striving, self protection, and replaces it with the confidence of a child who knows he is wanted. [00:01:46] John writes, to all who received him, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1, 12, 13 this right is not fragile, it is not earned. It is not maintained by performance. It is rooted in God's will and sealed by God's Spirit. And you are not trying to convince God to accept you. You are living from the acceptance he has already given. The Spirit of adoption ensures that your relationship with God is not transactional but familial, not fearful, but free, not distant, but deeply personal. [00:02:19] To receive the Spirit of adoption is to step into a new kind of life, one marked by intimacy instead of intimidation, belonging instead of anxiety, and freedom instead of bondage. You do not approach God as a servant hoping for approval. You come as a son who already has it. The Spirit teaches you to rest, to trust, to draw near without hesitation, and to live without fear of rejection. [00:02:43] You are not a slave, you are a son. You are not an orphan. You are his. Everything else flows from there. [00:02:51] Thanks for listening. If you are being fed and or uplifted by these messages. We encourage you to like, comment, share and subscribe.
