[00:00:00] Welcome to your daily Grace by Timothy Wilder Foundations Episode 45 Law and Grace Law cannot produce righteousness.
[00:00:10] The law is perfect, holy and righteous, but it cannot make anyone perfect, holy or righteous. That truth sits at the heart of the gospel. The law reveals God's standard, but it cannot empower you to meet that standard. It exposes sin with absolute clarity, yet it offers no remedy for the sin it exposes. Paul writes that by the law is the knowledge of sin, not the removal of sin. The law is a spotlight, not a savior. It shows the stain, but provides no cleansing. This is why Scripture says the law was never intended to give life. If there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
[00:00:51] Galatians 3:21 but righteousness could not come through the law, because the law can only command. It cannot transform. It can tell you what to do, but it cannot change your heart. It can demand obedience, but it cannot supply the power to obey. The law is like a perfect map that shows the way but cannot move your feet. Grace, however, does what the law could never do. Grace produces righteousness by giving you a new heart, a new spirit, and a new identity in Christ. Grace does not command you to become something you are not. Grace declares what God has already made you in Christ. Under grace, righteousness is not a goal you strive toward. It is a gift you receive. For he hath made him to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 Grace accomplishes what the law could only describe. When believers try to use the law as a means of becoming righteous, frustration is inevitable. The law cannot empower you, strengthen you, or transform you. It can only measure you, and the measurement will always fall short.
[00:01:59] But grace does what the law cannot. It produces real righteousness from the inside out. Grace writes God's desires on your heart. Grace empowers obedience through the Spirit. Grace transforms you by the life of Christ within you. The law demands righteousness from you. Grace produces righteousness in you. That is why the Gospel is good news. You are not being asked to achieve what only Christ can accomplish.
[00:02:25] You are being invited to rest in what Christ has already finished.
