[00:00:00] Hello, welcome to your daily Grace by Timothy Wilder Grace looks like listening Most of us don't realize how rarely we actually listen. Even in our best conversations, we're often thinking ahead what we'll say next, how we'll respond, how we'll be understood. Without meaning to, we turn listening into something partial, something filtered through our own need to speak.
[00:00:27] But grace begins to change that. It's easy to think of grace as something we receive from God, something that restores us, frees us, and reshapes our relationship with Him. But grace doesn't stop there. It begins to express itself through us, often in ways that are far quieter than we expect.
[00:00:45] One of those ways is in how we listen. Not the kind of listening that waits for a turn to speak, but the kind that is fully present, the kind that makes space, the kind that seeks to understand before being understood. Understood, James writes, everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. James 1:19 that kind of posture doesn't come from discipline alone. It flows from something deeper. When you know you are already accepted, already secure, already made right. In Christ, there is no need to prove yourself in conversation. You don't have to win the moment or defend your identity. Grace has already settled that. And in that freedom, something begins to shift. You become less focused on being heard and more willing to truly hear not just words but the heart behind them, not just the surface but the story someone is carrying.
[00:01:44] Paul captures this when he says, do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit rather, in humility. Value others above yourselves. Philippians 2:3 Grace reshapes the way we see people. Conversations are no longer opportunities to assert ourselves, but invitations to love, to understand, and to be present. And sometimes the most meaningful thing we can offer isn't advice or answers but simple presence, because that's what grace has done for us.
[00:02:16] God did not rush past our story or meet us with impatience. He entered into it fully and completely, and in Christ he brought us near. And now, as his life is expressed through us, that same grace begins to take shape in how we relate to others. Listening becomes more than a skill it becomes an expression of love.
[00:02:37] Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:4 Grace doesn't just change what we believe, it changes how we show up.
[00:02:53] And sometimes, in the quietest and most ordinary moments, it looks like this. A heart that is at rest, a presence that doesn't rush, a willingness to truly hear.
