[00:00:00] Hello, welcome to your daily grace. By Timothy Wilder Foundations Episode 100 Growing in Grace Walking in the Spirit Walking in the Spirit is one of the most beautiful parts of the Christian life, and yet it's often misunderstood. When Paul says in Galatians 5:16, walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh, he isn't giving us a formula for perfection.
[00:00:30] He's inviting us into a relationship. Walking in the Spirit is not about trying harder. It's about learning to live from the gentle, steady presence of Christ within us.
[00:00:42] Over the years, I've come to see that walking in the Spirit feels far less like striving and far more like awareness.
[00:00:50] It's noticing his nudges, his reminders, his peace and his quiet corrections. It's recognizing that he is already leading us, even when we feel distracted or discouraged. The Spirit doesn't shout us into obedience.
[00:01:06] He guides us with a shepherd's voice, patient, kind and faithful.
[00:01:11] Galatians 5:18 says, if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. That verse has brought me so much freedom. Walking in the Spirit means we are not driven by fear, guilt or religious pressure. We are led by grace.
[00:01:29] The Spirit doesn't motivate us with threats. He motivates us with truth. He doesn't push us from behind. He walks with us, shaping our steps from within.
[00:01:40] Romans 8:14 says, as many as are led by the Spirit of God. These are sons of God. That means walking in the Spirit is not a test of maturity, it's a sign of belonging. The Spirit leads us because we are God's children. He leads us because we are loved. He leads us because Christ lives in us. Walking in the Spirit is simply learning to trust the One who is already guiding our hearts. One of the most comforting truths is found in Ezekiel 36:27, where God promises, I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes.
[00:02:22] That word cause reminds me that the Spirit is not just a helper. He is the source. He creates the desire. He supplies the strength. He produces the fruit. Our role is not to force spiritual growth, but to stay open to his leading.
[00:02:38] Walking in the Spirit also means we don't walk alone.
[00:02:42] Galatians 5:25 says, if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. We live in him because he gave us life.
[00:02:51] We walk in him because he guides that life.
[00:02:55] Some days the walk feels confident. Other days it feels slow and uncertain. But the Spirit is present in all of it, encouraging, reminding and gently pulling us toward what is good.
[00:03:08] Walking in the Spirit is not about perfection. It's about direction. It's about learning to lean into the presence of Christ within us. It's about trusting his voice more than our fears.
[00:03:21] It's about letting grace lead us step by step.
[00:03:25] And as we walk with him, we discover that he has been walking with us all along.
