[00:00:00] Hello, welcome to your daily Grace By Timothy Wilder Foundations Episode 98 Growing in Grace Renewing the Mind Renewing the mind is one of the most personal parts of Growing in Grace. Paul's words in Romans 12:2 be transformed by the renewing of your mind have never felt to me like a command to think harder or perform better.
[00:00:28] They feel like an invitation, an invitation to let grace reshape the way we see God, ourselves, and the world around us.
[00:00:38] Mind renewal isn't about forcing new thoughts. It's about letting the truth of Christ gently replace the old ones that kept us afraid, ashamed or striving.
[00:00:48] I've learned that mind renewal is far more about receiving than achieving.
[00:00:54] Ephesians 4:23 says, Be renewed in the spirit of your mind. That phrase matters. Be renewed. It's something God does in us, not something we manufacture. The spirit does the reshaping. Grace does the heavy lifting.
[00:01:11] Our part is simply to stay open, to let Christ speak into places where old patterns once ruled, and to trust that his truth really is enough to change us.
[00:01:22] Colossians 3:2 encourages us to set your mind on things above.
[00:01:27] I don't hear that as a call to escape reality. I hear it as a reminder to anchor my thoughts in what is true in Christ.
[00:01:36] When my mind drifts toward fear, grace reminds me of his presence. When shame tries to speak, grace reminds me of his acceptance. When old religious pressure whispers, do more grace answers. You already belong. Setting my mind on things above is choosing to let Christ's voice be the loudest one in the room.
[00:01:59] 2nd Corinthians 10:5 talks about taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. For years I misunderstood that as policing my mind. Now I see it differently. It's recognizing when a thought doesn't line up with grace and gently bringing it under the truth of Jesus. When a thought says, you're failing, Christ says, there is no condemnation. When a thought says, you're alone, Christ says, I will never leave you.
[00:02:30] Mind renews is the slow, steady replacement of lies with truth.
[00:02:35] Psalm 119:11 says, you, word I have hidden in my heart. That's where mind renewal begins, not with effort, but with truth settling into the heart.
[00:02:47] Scripture reveals Christ and Christ reveals grace. As his truth sinks deeper, the Spirit uses it to untangle old ways of thinking and build new ones rooted in identity, freedom and assurance.
[00:03:01] Mind renewal is not about becoming a better Christian.
[00:03:06] It's about learning to think from the reality of who we already are in Christ.
[00:03:11] It's letting grace speak louder than fear. It's letting truth speak louder than shame. It's letting Christ define us instead of our past, our emotions, or our circumstances.
[00:03:24] Transformation doesn't come from trying harder. It comes from seeing Jesus more clearly. As grace renews our minds, our hearts follow and our lives begin to reflect the freedom we already possess in Him.
